Hucknall Sports 3 Moorgreen Colts 1

5/9/09Saturday U11's Division 2 - League Game
Hucknall Sports 3 Moorgreen Colts 1

Whites start season with a victory
Hucknall Sports, proudly wearing their new Nottingham Audi sponsored kit, started their first 11 a-side league game with a home match against Moorgreen Colts, a team will great tradition for playing skilful and attractive football.

Both sides began cautiously and played some measured football whilst getting used to extra space available to them on the full sized Newstead pitch. Hucknall gradually started to impose themselves and openings began to appear in the Colts defence and it was NEWTON who found the back of the net first for Sports with a crisp half-volley from the edge of the box. Bowley created a number of problems for Colts with some great corners, but it was Diriso who's clever foot-work created the second goal for DAVIES to smash into he corner of the net. Hucknall were well on top now and a third goal quickly followed when DAVIES once more slotted the ball neatly into the bottom corner after a well worked move from midfield to attack.

Half-time score - Hucknall Sports 3 Moorgreen 0

Whites rearranged the team line-up for the second half and prepared themselves for a fight-back from Colts who were now playing with a strong wind at their backs.
Early Moorgreen pressure from a corner resulted in a defensive Davies header just being carried over the line by Sports goalie Orton.
This gave the opposition greater confidence and they piled forward to try and force another goal, but great defending by Davies, Saxton (Captain) and Smith snuffed out any clear-cut chances. New Sports goalie Orton blocked bravely on the edge of his box on the one occasion when Colts got in behind Hucknall's defence.
Sports attack were restricted to few chances, but striker Hallam (aka Usain Bolt) can count himself unlucky to see his fantastic surging run result in his shot being cleared off the line by the Colts last defender. Finally the referee blew his whistle for full time and the Hucknall boys celebrated victory a hard earned victory.

Full-time score - Hucknall Sports 3 Moorgreen 1

This was certainly a 'game of two halves', the first being all out attack and the second pretty much all out defence but this only serves to demonstrate what a great squad Hucknall have this season.
The Man of the Match award could have gone to many different members of the team but eventually it was SAXTON who was chosen for his strong defending and leadership - a real Captains performance.
