Saturday U12's Cup
Clifton AW 1 Hucknall Sports 3
Dark and damp conditions welcomed Sports to this weekends Cup match with Clifton All Whites at South Notts College on Farnborough Road. Both teams had met only two weeks previously and on that occasion, despite Sports having many chances to win the game before half time, it was Clifton who won 2-1.
All Whites started the game the better of the two teams and looked dangerous with their neat style of football creating space in and around the Sports defence. But Hucknall defended well and Keeper Kal Orton's handling was solid as a rock. At the other end of the pitch James Hallam was once again a constant threat and wingers Oliver Bowley and Jacob Barlow gradually started to find some space to try and put Hallam in on goal. Shortly after sending a shot narrowly wide of the Clifton goal Sports coaches were left scratching their heads when All Whites bundled the ball into the net to take the lead with a clear foul going unnoticed. Just before half-time Sports where awarded a free-kick for a deliberate back-pass but could not find a way to goal through a packed penalty area.
Half time: Clifton AW 1 Hucknall Sports 0
For the start of the second half Sports introduced Dante Diriso and William Brown and both boys went on to make a significant impact on the game. Charlie Blatherwick and Ellis Evans began to take a firm grip of the midfield and showed some sublime passes to split the Clifton defence time and again. One such pass found its way to Hallam whose strong shot squirmed out of the goalies grasp and into the back of the net. This was just the break that Hucknall had been seeking and as a result the whole team suddenly found an extra yard of pace and the confidence came flowing back - Sports looked like the Title Winners of last year.
Then the move of the game saw Hucknall turn defence into attack when Keeper Orton threw a long ball to Thomas Eastwood who ran the length of the pitch before putting in a ball that found its way to Hallam who slotted home with the coolness of a well practiced training ground finish ;-) Blatherwick and Evans combined again to create an opening for Dirso who goal from a narrow angle saw him lifted should high in celebration from his Hucknall team mates.
Sports fans wanted more goals but the final whistle blew for a great win and we all look forward to the next round of the Cup.
Final Score: Clifton AW 1 Hucknall Sports 3
This result is great reward for a team that has worked so hard recently but without getting any reward for their efforts on Match Days. As with previous weeks there were many great performances to provide nominations for Man of the Match.
Ryan Towle and Harry Saxton both deserve a special mention for adapting well to their new positions.
Thomas Eastwood and Jacob Barlow are putting together a great partnership on the left, whilst Welsh Wizard Ellis Evans and Dante Diriso looked dangerous on the right.
Up front James Hallam continues his good run of form, both scoring and providing goals.
But for providing a solid and courageous performance in goal, today's winner was Kal Orton - brilliant Kal and well done.

Vernon come-back breaks Sports hearts
13/11/10
Saturday U12's Division One
Hucknall Sports 2 Vernon Colts 4
Bright sunny weather welcomed Sports and Vernon to Newstead Recreation Ground for a match between the bottom two teams in the league, but if anyone was expecting a poor game then they were sadly mistaken. Sports and Vernon put on a great display that belied both their league positions.
Hucknall thought they would have to start this game with only 11 players after losing two boys to County representative teams, but fortunately both Dante Diriso and Buckly Gibson-Brown made the long journey back from York in time for kick-off.
Starting with a new midfield pairing of William Brown and Charlie Blatherwick Hucknall could have been in the lead after seconds of the game starting when Jacob Barlow's shot went narrowly wide after great work from Blatherwick to create the chance. This gave Sports the confidence to push forward time and again but somehow the Vernon goal remained in tact. James Hallam was in splendid form and he latched onto clever passes from Oliver Bowley, Ryan Towle and Charlie Blatherwick only to by denied by the either the woodwork or Vernon's giant of a goalkeeper. Sports keeper Kal Orton hardly had a save to make and his team were well on top. Harry Saxton narrowly missed out on getting on the end of a Towle free-kick but the half time whistle blew with Hucknall frustrated and the scores level.
Half time: Hucknall Sports 0 Vernon Colts 0
Sports began the second half in wonderful spirits and sought out the goal that their first half play had deserved. Finally, the breakthrough came with both Hallam and Gibson-Brown finding the back of the net in quick succession. Both goals coming as a result of great football with the team moving the ball cleverly from midfield to attack to stun Vernon. Surely, this was the queue for Hucknall to push on and take their first victory of the season. But Colts got themselves back into the game by converting a penalty. Even then Sports still looked the team most likely to push on and could have scored twice more before Vernon equalised.
A rampant Vernon pushed Sports further and further back as they went in search of the winner and with Hucknall's earlier discipline and formation nowhere to been seen the visitors turned 2-0 down into a 4-2 lead. Hucknall still had their chances and a fine Jacob Barlow run and cross was headed narrowly wide by the unlucky Towle.
Final Score: Hucknall Sports 2 Vernon Colts 4
As with previous weeks, Sports could have been well in the lead before half time but unfortunately history repeated itself and it just wasn't to be.
Candidates for Man of the Match were numerous in the game.
Jacob Barlow is carrying his great skill on the training ground into matches and posing a real threat once more.
Thomas Eastwood and Joe Newton continue to prove solid in defence, with both looking to push the team forward by running the ball forward rather than simply blasting it long.
James Hallam quite literally shed blood for his team and lead his team by great example to continually provide a serious threat to the Vernon goal.
But the award went to Birthday Boy and debutant Charlie Blatherwick, who showed enough skill in his centre midfield role to confirm that he is going to be a great asset to the team in any number of positions - welcome on board Charlie and well done.
Keep the faith boys.

Saturday U12's Division One
Hucknall Sports 1 Clifton AW 2
After a weeks break Hucknall Sports U12's went into the game with Clifton AW knowing that a first win would move them up the league but unfortunately a catalogue of poor finishing, heroic goal line clearances and fantastic goalkeeping mean that Sport are still waiting for their first win of the season.
Playing with the slope and a slight breeze at their backs Sports started slowly and Clifton took the game by the scruff of the neck with a series of probing long balls that Hucknall keeper Kal Orton dealt with confidently. A breakaway goal from Clifton's newly signed striker put the visitors into the lead but Sports responded with a series of opportunities that they failed narrowly to convert. In one particularly amazing incident the Sports looked certain to score but the ball cannoned off a Clifton defender on the goal line and miraculously looped up and over the cross-bar. Further chances feel to Sports before the end of the half, but the goal just would not come.
Half time: Hucknall Sport 0 Clifton AW 1
Changes for the second half saw Ryan Towle moved to right-back, Dylan Smith pushed forward into midfield and Oliver Bowley to right midfield. James Hallam forced the Clifton keeper into a fine save early on but then his stunning long shot found the bottom corner and Sports were back in the game. Hucknall sensed victory and with Hallam in fine form surely it was only a matter of time before the second goal came for Sports. More great saves, glaring misses and unbelievable clearance meant that Clifton were still in the game and then with only 10 mins remaining All Whites broke forward to force themselves back into the lead once more. Still Sports pushed on and on, Hallam saw his goal-bound left footed clip the head of the Clifton centre half and loop over rather than drop into the net and then second half substitute William Brown saw his great shot well saved by the impressive Clifton keeper and for the second week running the final whistle arrived all too soon for Hucknall.
Final Score: Hucknall Sports 1 Clifton AW 2
On another day Sports would have been out of site by half time, but football is a cruel game and today the ball just would not find the back of the net.
A number of performances were worthy of note with Kal Orton, Mitch Davies, Jacob Barlow and Oliver Bowley all playing well but today's winner of the Man of the Match award was James Hallam. His fantastic display of inventive and intelligent forward play deserved more than his solitary goal - a truly great performance James.

Much improved Sports narrowly miss out
16/10/10
Saturday U12's Division One
Hucknall Sports 1 Greenwood Meadows 4
In a reverse of last weeks fixture Hucknall Sports hosted Greenwood Meadows at their home ground in Newstead Village. A great pitch, bright sunshine and blustery winds made for perfect conditions for both teams.
Sports new found confidence and team spirit showed immediately when James Hallam created a chance for strike partner Ellis Evans in the first 5 mins. But unfortunately the Welsh Wizard just couldn't get enough on the ball to fully test the keeper from close range. Greenwood were rocked and Sports took a deserved lead when a masterful strike from the versatile Ryan Towle flew into the back of the net from all of 30 yards out.
Sports needed to weather the storm and were happy to see a Greenwood free-kick clip the cross-bar and go over. However, Greenwood capitalised on a mistake in midfield by Sports to work a clever equaliser that Kal Orton in the Sports goal could do nothing about. Soon after more bad luck (we have had plenty this season) when a shot bound for the safety of Sports Keeper Kal Orton's hands deflected off of Bowley and into the back of the net.
Hucknall are nothing if not resilient and showed great belief in themselves. Both sets of supporters held their breathe as Towle stepped up for a trademark free-kick. But unfortunately the blustery wind took his great shot off target and as Bowley lined himself for a rebound shot the referee blew for an infringement. Another chance for Sports to equalise arrived from a looping cross where Hallam was sent sprawling and Jacob Barlow narrowly avoided forcing the ball into the net. With Sports in the ascendency the half-time whistle blew with Greenwood in a narrow lead.
Half time Hucknall Sports 1 Greenwood Meadows 2
Second half changes for Sports made sure that the same energy levels and intensity were maintained. Hucknall's defensive line of Towle, Saxton, Newton and Eastwood covered everything that Greenwood could throw at them and it was going to take something special to score. Sports mistakenly thought they had been awarded a free-kick on the edge of their own area only to see the decision go the other way. Keeper, Kal Orton, looked to have made a great save from Greenwood's shot but their strikers were first to react to the rebound and bundled in the net from a position that, on a different day, might have been flagged for off-side.
Greenwood took their score to 4-1 after an outstanding free-kick from 30 yards from Adrian Lang, but once again Sports management were puzzled at the decision for what appeared to be a 50/50 challenge. Hucknall still had chances to get back into the game and William Brown went close for the second week running, but eventually time ran out on Sports and the whistle blew for a victory to Greenwood.
Full time: Hucknall Sports 1 Greenwood Meadows 4
This was a great effort against one of the best teams in the league. Sports refusal to roll-over and hand the game to Greenwood was commendable and all the players deserve much credit for giving maximum effort throughout.
Choosing a Man of the Match was extremely difficult today with Towle, Hallam, Evans, Saxton, Newton and Eastwood all doing well. But today's winner was Mitch Davies.
Mitch has been wonderfully consistent and close to winning the award on many occasions - well done kiddo and keep it up.
After a very difficult start to the season the signs are that Sports have turned the corner. Stick together boys and the rewards will come.

First points for Sports
25/9/10
Saturday U12's Division One
West Bridgford Spiders vrs Hucknall Sports Whites
Hucknall Sports travelled to Regatta Way for their third game of the season looking for their first points in Division One with a game against West Bridgford Spiders.
In blustery conditions Sports played into the wind for the first half and the two evenly matched teams cancelled each other out in all areas of the pitch with chances few and far between. Hucknall's defensive line of Smith, Saxton, Newton and Eastwood all kept their discipline and played well as a unit behind a combative midfield pairing of Jarrod and Mitch Davies.
Half Time: West Bridgford Spiders 0 Hucknall Sports 0
Playing with the wind at their backs Hucknall set about looking for a goal but as the wind got stronger it was difficult to control the speed of passes and the ball travelled through to the Spiders Keeper countless times. West Bridgford cleverly played the ball to feet and looked dangerous when trying to get around the back of the Sports defence. But Hucknall's goal finally came through great play from the hard-working Dylan Smith which saw him break forward from right-back to make a perfect pass to James Hallam who took his chance well and Sports took the lead. Hucknall fans thought this would calm the boys down and see them go on to win the game, but all credit to Spiders for bringing the scores level through a bustling goal from a corner.
The game was any ones to win now and in the final moments Spiders hit a superb free-kick against the cross-bar. This was followed by a great effort from Sports left-back Thomas Eastwood who picked the ball up in midfield and created space for a wonderful shot of his own that looked to have won the game but agonisingly for Hucknall hit the post and bounced out of play to safety.
Full Time: West Bridgford Spiders 1 Hucknall Sports 1
Conditions made this into a battling football match rather than a skilful one and in Mitch and Jarrod Davies Hucknall have two boys who can battle with the best of them. Today's Man of the Match went to Jarrod for a really strong performance and commanding game in the middle of the park - well done Jarrod.

Déjà vu for Sports
18/9/10
Saturday U12's Division One
Hucknall Sports 1 Carlton Town Blue 4
Hucknall Sports entertained Carlton Town in their first home game of the season and an immaculate Newstead pitch provided a great playing surface for both sets of boys to show off their best footballing skills.
Carlton Town are renowned for playing attractive football and took the lead early in the game after a mistake for Hucknall's back line allowed the Carlton striker to finish neatly. But Hucknall showed no sign of nerves and almost drew level immediately when Ryan Towle seized on a through ball but saw his shot go narrowly wide. Buckly Gibson-Brown was dangerous around the edges of the penalty area and tested the Carlton keeper a number of times, but the goal just would not come. James Hallam was a constant threat but Sports just could not find that killer ball to set him free and for the second game running Sports thought that they should have had a penalty but the referee waved away all appeals and the half-time whistle blew with the score at 1-0 to Carlton.
Half Time: Hucknall Sports 0 Carlton Town 1
Changes to Whites early in the over half time saw Ellis Evans replace Gibson-Brown at the heart of midfield and surround by the combative pair of Jarrod and Mitch Davies (no relation) Sports started to take control and got themselves back into the game when centre-half Harry Saxton blasted the ball into the net during a goalmouth scramble. Sports confidently pushed forward only to see the ball slip agonising wide of the post during another scramble. Then Carlton showed good composure by putting in a great cross that found their striker unmarked on the penalty spot who made no mistake to take them back into the lead. Whites had chances and a couple of Ryan Towle free-kicks tested the Carlton keeper but he stood firm and did a great job for his team.
Then Carlton won a free-kick of their own and showed just how to make the most of it by planting the ball into the top corner. With time running out Carlton closed out the game with a fourth and it was déjà vu time for Sports.
Full Time: Hucknall Sports 1 Carlton Town 4
Just as the previous week Whites fought their way back into the game but couldn't find a way to make their domination tell.
Once again, there were many good performances from Whites with Buckly Gibson-Brown, Ryan Towle, Oliver Bowley and the entire defensive unit of Harry Saxton, Joe Newton and Tom Eastwood all playing well.
Mitch Davies and Jarrod Davies can count themselves unlucky not to win the Man of the Match award, but for his great defensive performance this weeks award was won by Dylan Smith - well done Dylan you've got to be the best right-back in the league.
Division One is a tough league with no easy games, but Whites can take heart from the fact that they could have and probably should have got something out of this game just as they should have last week. But the points will come guys so keep up the hard work and lets look forward to next week.

First Home Game of the new season
This weekend will see us playing our first Home game of the new season. The boys worked really hard in training last night and listened well to all the coaches. Let's hope that all our hard work pays off with the right result this weekend.

Unlucky Whites miss out in thriller
11/9/10
Saturday U12's Division 1
Dunkirk Colts 4 Hucknall Sports 1
Unlucky Whites miss out in thriller
A trip to treble winners Dunkirk was Hucknall's reward for winning League 2 last season. The Ron Steele Sports Ground was busy as ever but eventually the mini soccer finished and Sports first game in Division One got underway.
Colts started confidently and good work out wide resulted in them taking the lead after 5 mins when the ball loop up high over Whites keepers head. Sports needed to steady themselves and so they did by putting in a massive amount of work from the front to the back. Gradually, they started to win the midfield battle and chances started to appear as a result. New signing Buckly Brown was unlucky not to score after good work from his midfield colleagues provided him with the opportunity to shoot but the ball went narrowly wide. However, soon after, the same player made no mistake and slotted the ball in the net to get Sports back into the game and level the score. Dante Diriso demonstrated how much he has improved over the last 6 months and his composure on the ball allowed him to create space under pressure that resulted in great passing and shots on goal. In the final minutes of the half a short corner from Sports was intercepted and from the break away, and against the run of play, Colts broke forward and punished Sports for not clearing the ball by snatching back the lead to go into the break leading 2-1.
Half time: Dunkirk Colts 2 Hucknall Sports 1
Playing down the slope and with the wind at their backs it was obvious that Colts would look to play ball over the top but Sports defence held out well and played as a unit to catch Dunkirk off-side time and again. Strong work in midfield, particularly from Captain Jarrod Davies, provided the platform for Sports to mount attacks. Colts defence had to be on their toes and made a series of last ditch tackles and saves to deny striker James Hallam. Appeals for a Sports penalty were waved away when it seemed that Hallam's leg had been taken from under him. Colts cruelly went further into the lead after another deflection off of a Sports player found its way into the net and in the final minute Colts sealed victory with a well taken free-kick but the referee might have stopped play earlier had he seen a foul on Sport Keeper Kal Orton.
Final score: Dunkirk Colts 4 Hucknall Sports 1
The score does not tell the full story of the game and realistically it was more like a 2-1 game. Sports battled really well but paid the price for trying to play football in defence when putting the ball out of play might have been a safer option. That said, the boys deserve a massive amount of credit for giving last season Champions a real fright and with a little bit of luck might have got something out of this game.
Difficult to choose an outright Man of the Match in today's game when everyone put in so much effort to try and get a result for Sports. But a confident and skilful performance from Dante Diriso on the left and right won today's long over due award - well done Dante and we look forward to you having a great season.

First game of the new season tomorrow. Boys are playing last season Division One Champions so it will be an interesting day no doubt. Watch this space for the match result.
Warmed up by playing a local Derby against Hucknall Harriers. All a bit wierd as 5 boys play for both teams so it was difficult to read too much into the game.
Lost 5-2 in the end, but much better performance in the second half were we won 2-1.

Ratby friendly
Played Leicester League and Cup Winners Ratby this weekend and narrowly missed out on a deserved draw with a disallowed goal in the last seconds of the game.
Ratby are clearly a well organised and talented team and with the half time score at 4-0 I was wondering what we needed to do to get into this game. Fortunately, the match turned out to be a classic game of 'two halves' and we scored three in the second half with the opposition unable to increase their lead at all.
Good performances from all the team, in particuarly Harry Saxton who had the best game I had seen him play for a while and he looked in great shape with a commanding performance in the heart of defence.
We played good possession football from the back to the front, but need to learn to assess the options rather than taking my coaching instructions too literally. Also, need to play as a team and support our team mates when they are struggling to find a person to pass to.
All in all a good run out for next season.
This weekend we have our last tournament of the Summer and with most boys away over the bank holiday weekend we will only be taking a very small squad.

Entered three tournament this summer and lost in semi-finals of them all - bummer!!!
Boys playing well at the moment and squad is just about complete for the start of the season. Looking forward to new midfield and left-back signings having a great season and the rest of the boys progressing from where they left off.
Friendly this weekend with Ratby, a team who beat us 3-1 last time out - will be interesting to see if we have improved.

Soccer Tournament
This weekend we have entered two teams into our own soccer tournament. The weather has been brilliant recently, but sods law says that it will rain all weekend just to spoil our fun. Need to decide which team to put into the older age group. On the one hand we are strong enough to win either age group possibly but on the other it might be better to play against teams we are due to face next season.

Unbeaten run comes to an end
Five weeks after clinching the league title Hucknall travelled to Radcliffe for the penultimate game of the season looking to preserve their unbeaten record but despite a fantastic second half fight back Sports left things too late and lost the game 4-3.
Radcliffe's early well taken goals in the first half rocked Hucknall to the core and unbelievably the Champions heads dropped and all confidence ebbed away. Sports had their chances to get on the score sheet but looked tentative in front of goal and often looked to take an extra touch with the goal at their mercy. But this should nothing aware from a great lesson in football from Olympic who played as a team despite having nothing to gain from winning the game.
Injury to Oliver Bowley saw Tyler Johnstone entered into the action but a frustrating first half for Sports came to a close with Radcliffe seizing on a misplaced goal kick to score their third goal and make the score 3-0 at half-time and leave Hucknall with a mountain to climb.
Half time: Radcliffe Olympic 3 Hucknall Sports White 0
Playing downhill and with the wind at their backs in the second half Hucknall galvanised themselves for 30 minutes of hard work to try and get back into the game and an early goal from the combative Jarrod Davies looked like the perfect start. But Radcliffe hit back with a well taken goal directly from a free kick and could have made the score 5-1 had they not missed from the penalty spot. Sports showed flickers of form and a fabulous goal from Jacob Barlow was followed up by a scrambled goal from Ryan Towle to see Hucknall in the ascendancy with the clock ticking down. A last gasp shot from Davies narrowly sailed agonisingly over the cross-bar and the game was done.
Sports unbeaten record was gone and Radcliffe celebrated a well won victory.
Final score: Radcliffe Olympic 4 Hucknall Sports White 3
For the neutral this was a great game, but for Sports Management this was a nightmare. Too many times Hucknall were second to the ball and guilty of arguing amongst themselves rather than trying to pull together and win the game.
This should not detract from what has been a fantastic season for Sports, but hopefully it will serve as reminder that, whether you like it or not, football is a team game and you must all pull together in order to win.
The outright winner for Sports Man of the Match award was Dylan Smith, although a special mention should go to one of this seasons most improved players Joe Newton for trying his best to rally the troops. But when all around him were losing there heads Dylan Smith stayed calm and collected and set an example that others would do well to follow.

Hallam Hat-Trick secures Championship for Sports
Miserable weather and an undulating pitch could not dampen Whites desire to take a grip of this game after they made the long journey to Keyworth in search of a victory that would secure the League Championship title.
Fielding a full strength team Hucknall started at a blistering pace with wingers Ryan Towle and Jacob Barlow threatening to unlock the Keyworth backline every time that had the ball. A left wing cross from Barlow picked out Oliver Bowley who controlled the ball well and sent Whites on their way by coolly slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Strike partner James Hallam quickly followed this up with a well taken goal of his own and Hucknall looked to be coasting to victory.
Joe Newton, Ellis Evans and Jarrod Davies gave a demonstration of intelligent midfield play, defending well at times and making 'killer' passes at others, to drive the team forward. Winger Towle, in particular, providing some wonderful right wing crosses that the Hucknall forwards narrowly failed to convert.
Keyworth were found a way back into the game with a well taken goal and then followed this with another just before half time to take the game into the break with the scores level.
Half time: Keyworth United Whites 2 Hucknall Sports White 2
A great finish to the first half meant that United started the second with confidence running high and it was Keyworth who looked dangerous in the first ten minutes. Hucknall's defence just about held on with Mitch Davies in particular typifying their 'never say die' attitude and Keeper Kal Orton put in a solid performance to mop up any balls that eluded Whites defence.
Second half Whites substitute Dante Diriso looked dangerous on the right wing and Barlow continued to play well out wide on the left. Good play from Sports midfield released Hallam to score his second of the game and he then turned provider for Jacob Barlow to make the score 4-2 to Hucknall.
Finally, the boys could relax and enjoy the game and this allowed them to play some great football in the final quarter of the game creating chance after chance. Substitutes William Brown, Kieran Wilson and Tyler Johnstone entered the game and once again showed the strength in depth that Whites posses this season by maintaining the high performance levels that the team were now playing. Super-Striker Hallam scored the goal of the game for his hat-trick and 27th goal of the season, smashed another against the cross-bar and still had time to setup Johnstone for a chance that he was unlucky not to convert in the closing minutes.
As the final whistle blew Hucknall players celebrated victory in style with their supporters for their first League Title.
Final score: Keyworth United Whites 2 Hucknall Sports White 5
Scoring a hat-trick and being involved in everything good in the attacking half of the field would normally secure a Man of the Match Award for James Hallam, but it was Defender Mitch Davies who won it for his brilliant defending.
If there is a boy who can head a ball better than Mitch then he must be playing in the Premiership. An inspiring performance from him that frustrated Keyworth attackers time and again. Unlucky James, but well done Mitch.
This has been four years of hard work, the early seasons saw the boys losing more games than they won but all credit to each and every one of them for having the desire to improve and belief in themselves. They have worked so hard over this time to become a football team that they can be proud of. This is the first trophy that the team have ever won and the boys could not have deserved it more.
Coaches and Manager would like to go on record to say how much they have enjoyed working with the boys, its been a pleasure and privilege.

Four Goal Towle drives Sports on to Victory
Four Goal Towle drives Sports on to Victory
Newstead Recreational Ground was bathed in spring sunshine for the final home game of the season for Hucknall Sports against Clifton All Whites. Earlier in the season Clifton had held Sports to a 3-3 draw to become the only team to take points from Hucknall so far.
Missing Kal Orton to illness and Kieran Wilson to Kick-Boxing exams meant it was a reshaped Hucknall who took to the pitch. William Brown, one of the heroes of the East Valley game, played in goal and Ryan Towle partnered Jarrod Davies in midfield. After winning the toss Sports elected to play with the wind at their backs but Clifton's high-line of defence caught out Hucknall's front line time and again. The offside flag was correctly raised countless times and Sports were struggling to find a way to break through. Midway in the half James Hallam broke free and chased down a long ball to cross from the goal-line for Ryan Towle to finish with aplomb. Strike duo of Hallam and Oliver Bowley had their chances to extend the lead along with Dante Dirsio and Harry Saxton but the second goal just would not come and at half-time Hucknall lead by a solitary goal.
Half time: Hucknall Sports White 1 Clifton All Whites 0
Clifton's tactics of shoot on site were clear from the second half kick-off. However, fantastic midfield play from Joe Newton and Jarrod Davies meant that Clifton had no time on the ball and Sports keeper Brown was a spectator for most of the half.
Up front Josh Hart showed great skill to take on the combative Clifton back-line and was really unlucky to see his shot just drift wide after a great run. Hallam also went close but it was Towle who found the net to score his second of the game and this was quickly followed by a neat volley from Ellis Evans. Clifton were not happy at all and the referee had to work overtime to keep a 'lid' on the game as it looked likely to explode at any time.
Whites backline of Mitch Davies, Harry Saxton and Dylan Smith marshalled the Clifton attackers well and on the rare occasion that Al Whites looked like threatening Sports defensive unit snuffed out any sign of a chance.
As the second half passed the midway mark, leading by example, Ryan Towle showed that thankfully good football will prevail and produced a 'master-class' of right-wing play that resulted in him scoring two more goals and closing the game out for a fabulous victory to Sports that see's them complete their home league fixtures with a 100% win record. Clifton did score a consolation goal late on after a rare defensive mix-up from Hucknall but the referee blew his whistle to complete the game soon after.
Final score: Hucknall Sports White 5 Clifton All Whites 1
The first half was certainly a unique test for Hucknall and valuable lessons will have been learnt. In the second half Sports controlled the game with some measured and all-round good play.
This weeks Man of the Match award went to Ryan Towle, not just for his four goals, but for showing that footballing skill is the main ingredient for winning a game - well done Ryan, that's 17 goals for the season, not bad for a defender!

'Super Kal' keeps Hucknall on track for Title
A waterlogged pitch in West Bridgford meant that this game was switch to Newstead Recreational Ground and Hucknall looked forward to meeting a West Bridgford side noted for their clever style of football.
Harriers started the game like a rocket and took the lead from their first attack when a well worked move saw them cut open the Sports backline. Whites were stunned but confident that they could get back into this game with so much time remaining on the clock and sure enough a sustained spell of pressure saw Jacob Barlow level the scores and keep his own rich vein of form going with his 13th goal of the season. Oliver Bowley then played in James Hallam for him to smash Hucknall into the lead and soon after Ryan Towle converted his own free-kick, scoring high into the top corner, to have take Hucknall into the break leading by 3-1.
Half time: Hucknall Sports White 3 West Bridgford Harriers 1
Kieran Wilson entered the match as a second half substitute and slotted into midfield along the impressive Jarrod Davies to try to starve Harriers of the ball. But Bridgford showed why they are considered on of the best footballing sides in the League and had the confidence to play the ball 'backwards to go forwards'. Whites defence was working overtime and time and again defenders Joe Newton, Harry Saxton and the outstanding Dylan Smith shut out Harriers with last ditch tackling. Harriers continued to press and broke free from the Hucknall defenders only to find themselves confronted by Whites Keeper 'Super' Kal Orton who showed tremendous bravery to dive at the feet of the Bridgford attackers a least three times to stop them from scoring. West Bridgford were awarded a penalty and sensed a way back into the game only for Orton to foil them with a 'cat-like' save that saw him push the ball onto the cross-bar and have the speed of thought to pounce on the lose ball - truly breath-taking.
Dylan Smith defended wonderfully well when he was left as the last man and tackled not once, but three times in quick succession to foil the tricky Harriers winger and then Orton totally demoralised Harriers when he saved bravely again when one-on-one with the Bridgford attacker for one last time. As the clock ticked down, Hucknall saw out the game in the attacking half of the pitch and the referees whistle blew for a hard fought win much to the relief of the fans and coaches.
Final score: Hucknall Sports Whites 3 West Bridgford Harriers 1
This was a wonderful football match for the neutral (as they say on Match of the Day) and both teams deserve great credit for playing some outstanding football on a muddy pitch that Division One teams would be proud of.
Dylan (The Silent Assassin) Smith, Jarrod (Patrick Vieira) Davies and James (Didier Drogba) Hallam worked their socks off today but an outstanding performance from Hucknall Keeper Kal Orton won him a long over due Man of the Match away - fantastic Kal, well done.

Another well fought team performance from Sports
Sports match was played on a cold Saturday afternoon against Keyworth United Whites. Hucknall were determined to improve on the previous week’s game against Cotgrave and kicked downhill with the wind in the first half.
Hucknall didn’t start the game particularly well, with some scrappy passing, but as the match progressed they finally got their game of flowing, attractive, football working.
Good midfield play saw Sports probing the Keyworth back-line but with the away team playing five-across-the-middle it was very congested and space was at a minimum.
Harry Saxton, in his solid defensive role, won a loose ball at the back and took on his man (Beckenbauer-style) to slot a side-rule pass through to James Hallam who ran in on goal and dispatched the ball into the far corner. Jacob Barlow and Kieran Wilson were dangerous on the wings when Sports got the ball out wide and did well in getting round the back of the Keyworth defence and putting in crosses.
The visitors rallied and searched for an equalizer but were having to be content with long range shots which Kal Orton (The cat) made look easy to deal with. Sports became more confident and started taking control of the game, with Jarrod Davies, William Brown and Ryan Towle winning most of the midfield battles. A good passing move saw Hallam sprint down the left to leave is marker and play a ball across the box for an incoming Towle to slot home past the stranded keeper.
Half time: Hucknall Sports 2 – Keyworth United 0
In the Second half there were team changes from Hucknall with Dante Diriso and Joe Newton bolstering midfield as Sports were expecting heavy pressure from the away team. But Hucknall’s solid rear-guard of Mitch Davies, Harry Saxton and Dylan Smith stood firm and it was Sports that were searching for a goal.Slick interplay saw Oliver Bowley and Diriso combine to cross for Hallam to flick the ball into the far corner to make the score 3-0. Sports had a taste for yet more goals and a fantastic surge up the left wing from Hallam saw a pin-point cross pick out Towle who wrong footed the keeper to shoot home for a fourth.
Keyworth’s never say die attitude resulted in them being awarded a well deserved penalty only for them to smash the ball against the bar and soon after the final whistled blew with the score 4-0 to Hucknall Sports.
Full time: Hucknall Sports 4 – Keyworth United 0
This was a solid team performance from everyone and a great improvement from the previous week. Sports Coaches still think there is potential for better from the boys and the team need to stay focused for the final run-in to make sure that all their hard work is rewarded.
There were several candidates for Man of the Match with Goalie Kal Orton having another outstanding game.
However, in this match it went to James Hallam for an awesome performance where he held the front line well and had the determination to battle for every ball - brilliant James.
Well done boys, more of the same next week please.

Hucknall Humbled in Cup
Bright winter sunshine illuminated Newstead Recreational Ground for this FA Shield Match between Division 2 leaders Hucknall Sports and Division 1 Lowdham Colts.
Winning the toss Hucknall chose to play with the wind at their backs and started slowly. The crisp passing and movement of the previous week had deserted the team but they still managed to fashion decent chances with James Hallam and Oliver Bowley unlucky not to find the back of the net on a number of occasions. Whites penned Lowdham in their own half for the entire first half apart from once when just before half-time a left sided move saw the Colts winger evade Sports defence to slot coolly home to take the game into the break 1-0 to the visitors and leaving Sports wondering just how they had not managed to take one of the host of chances themselves.
Half time: Hucknall Sports Whites 0 Lowdham Colts 1
Sports took to the field in the second half with last weeks hat-trick hero Ellis Evans playing as Hallam's strike partner but Colts defended manfully and dealt well with any attacking efforts. Lowdham got their second goal of the game after following up a shot that came back off the post during a defensive mix-up by Sports. Dylan Smith had the best effort for Whites when his shot from just outside the area grazed the post. But the final whistle blew all too soon for Hucknall to signal the end of a disappointing match.
Final score: Hucknall Sports Whites 0 Lowdham 2
On a different day Sports might have been out of site after the first 15 mins, but it just was not to be their day today.
Lessons will be learnt from this game and Hucknall will back to league action next week.
Good luck to Lowdham in the next round of the Shield.
Jarrod Davies was the winner of today's Man of the Match Award for his combative display in midfield (and defence) as well as making some of the best passes of the game - well done Jarrod.

Lacklustre Whites Win Trophy Match
Hucknall Sports Whites travelled the short distance to Caythorpe to take on Lowdham Colts in the second round of the Saturday Trophy competition on the back of an unbeaten start to the season with confidence running high.
But it was Lowdham who started the better of the two sides and Whites defence could only watch as a Colts breakaway saw the opposition crash a clear shot on goal against the woodwork. This should have provided the warning for Whites to move up a gear but a succession of poor control in midfield and neat passing from Lowdham meant that the Sports defence was working overtime to keep the score sheet clean. Thankfully, a wonderful pass from Jarrod Davies put James Hallam through on goal and he calmly slotted the ball into the net to put Whites into the lead.
All credit to Colts though as they refused to crumble and they got the goal that their play deserved with when a fantastic run from defence to attack saw Santos level the scores. Hucknall were clearly rattled at not having things their own way and Colts threatened once more but Whites Keeper Kal Orton showed great composure to side-step the attacker and make a simple pass to his defenders. Late in the Hucknall were awarded a penalty when Josh Hart was tripped in the box and but Colts keeper made a great save from Hallam to take the match into half-time with the scores level.
Half time: Lowdham Colts 1 Hucknall Sports Whites 1
Whites rang the changes at half-time with all four substitutes being introduced in an attempt to get back to the football of recent weeks. Half-time tactics where executed from the start by Hucknall and great wing play from both Dante Diriso and Jacob Barlow started to create gaps in the Colts back line. Good footwork from Oliver Bowley saw the ball crossed into the 'danger' area and Jarrod Davies flicked the ball home with the outside of his foot. Finally, the Colts resistance was broken and as fitness started to play a major part in the game Hucknall exerted their authority and closed out the game with further goals from Mitch Davies, Jacob Barlow and Ryan Towle.
Final score: Lowdham Colts 1 Hucknall Sports Whites 5
This game will hopefully serve as a lesson to Sports that you must respect your opposition at all times. It is not good enough simply to turn-up at a game expecting to have shooting practice. Players have to continue to work hard to create chances for their team mates and stick to the tactics that have seen them make a great start to the season.
Amongst many good second half performances there are four in particular that are worthy of note: Jarrod Davies and Mitch Davies won the midfield battle and Kieran Wilson and Dylan Smith stood strong in defence.
However, the winner of the Man of the Match Award was Harry Saxton. His calm play from centre-back saw him bringing the ball forward and making wonderful passes that were reminiscent of Franz Beckenbauer at his best. The entire crowd watched in awe as his 25-yard strike smashed the cross-bar to deny him his first goal for the club.
Well done Harry - it was a pleasure to watch such a mature performance.

West Bridgford Wallabies 2 Hucknall Sports White 8
Whites Goal Feast
Early morning frost was burnt off by the winter sun just in time to for the referee to give this game between West Bridgford Wallabies and Hucknall Sports the go-ahead. Sports had got the better of the first meeting between the two teams earlier this season, but recent performances meant that Hucknall could take nothing for granted and had to be on their toes from the first whistle.
West Bridgford started the game well and their charge forward from the kick-off nearly caught Sports back-line napping. However, a clearance from Hucknall found its way, via midfield, through to Jacob Barlow who made no mistake when blasting the ball into the net to take an early lead. Wallabies heads did not drop though and soon they had brought the scores level with a well taken goal of their own. A throw-in from Sports midfielder William Brown was headed on to Jarrod Davies who found striker James Hallam in space in the penalty area to force the ball into the net for the second Sports goal. Then good play by Kieran Wilson found Oliver Bowley out wide and his cross from the goal-line found its way to Barlow who battled well to slot in his second. Sports were not done just yet and Hallam scored his second just before half-time to make the score to 4-1
Half time: West Bridgford Wallabies 1 Hucknall Sports White 4
The combination of Dante Dirsio and Ryan Towle were introduced for the second half and almost immediately paid off when the two combined to release Diriso for a wonderful right wing run and cross that Wallabies managed to scramble clear. Whites were sensing more goals and Barlow got his hat-trick after Bowley found him in space in the penalty area once again. Then Bowley, having had a goal disallowed for off-side earlier in the match, got in on the scoring when finding the net from close range after a great cross from Diriso once again. Bowley and Hallam could have added to their goal tallies when clear on goal but the Bridgford goalie saved well on both occasions. Wallabies continued to play football and credit to them for putting Whites defence under pressure and scoring a second goal from a long range shot. But Hucknall Striker Hallam had the final word when his shot was deflected into his own goal by Wallabies centre-back and then just to make sure of his own hat-trick Hallam finished well for Sports eighth goal of the game in the closing minutes.
Final score: West Bridgford Wallabies 2 Hucknall Sports White 8
This was a much improved performance by Hucknall not only for the goals but also for the manner in which they played. All the boys can consider this a job well-done, in particular the wingers who made the best of a boggy pitch.
James Hallam, Oliver Bowley, Jarrod Davies, Kieran Wilson and a great second half performance from Dante Diriso all figured in the choice of Man of the Match for this game.
However, for the second time in three weeks, wonderful left-wing play and a great hat-trick saw the award going to Jacob Barlow - brilliant Jacob, well done.

Hucknall Sports White 2 Cotgrave Colts 1
Battling Win for Whites
Mild weather greeted both sides as they arrived in Newstead for this Division 2 match between Hucknall Sports and Cotgrave Colts. Earlier in the season Sports had romped to an 8-0 victory over Colts but after their fantastic win over second placed Radcliffe it was a totally different Cotgrave side this weekend.
Whites started steadily, but for the second week running they found it difficult to get their silky passing game going on a heavy pitch. Hucknall striker James Hallam had the best of the early chances but Colts keeper stood firm and kept his team in the game early on with a string of fine saves. Sports were awarded a penalty when a clumsy tackle by the Cotgrave central defender felled Hallam. Up stepped Jacob Barlow, seemingly oblivious to the pressure of the moment, to took the ball low into the bottom corner. Hucknall pressed for a second but Colts defended well and took the match into the break with the score 1-0 to Hucknall.
Half time: Hucknall Sports Whites 1 Cotgrave Colts 0
Injuries to James Hallam and the early withdrawal of Ellis Evans and Oliver Bowley meant that a reshaped Hucknall took to the pitch in the second half with William Brown and Tyler Johnstone forming a new strike partnership. A thundering run and cross from Kieran Wilson presented a gilt-edged chance to Sports but they just could not force the ball into the net. Cotgrave began to find space in midfield and started to pressure Sports defensive line. The scores were levelled when Colts intercepted a clearance and scored a neatly taken goal.
The game really hotting up now and this was a real test for Hucknall, probably the toughest game the team had played in all season. Sports keeper Kal Orton produced two great saves, one with his face to stop Colts from going into the lead. Then thankfully for Whites a strong run from Jarrod Davies saw the ball find its way to Jacob Barlow who slotted into the net for his second of the game. Still Cotgrave refused to admit defeat. A poor tackled on Joe Newton forced yet more changes for the last minutes of the game with James Hallam playing at right-back but as Hucknall were about to bundle the ball into the net for their third the final whistle blew.
Cotgrave fans celebrated a fantastic battling performance by their boys and Sports looked mightily relieved to secure victory.
Final score: Hucknall Sports Whites 2 Gotgrave Colts 1
Hucknall Management rated Sports ten-out-of-ten for effort, but only three-out-of-ten for performance. However, to win games when not playing well keeps the points adding up at the top of the league.
Man of the Match was a competition between Goalkeeper Kal Orton and two-goal Winger Jacob Barlow with the final decision going to Barlow who remained cool under pressure for both his precious goals - well done Jacob (and Kal).

Dunkirk Colts 1 Hucknall Sports White 3
Sports happy to be back
As of Friday evening this match did not have a pitch to play on, but thanks to Sports Match Controller Derek Day the game was able to be reversed from an away fixture at Clifton Bridge to Wigwam Lane, local parent Greg Davies was drafted in as a last minute referee and after a morning pitch inspection and 8 weeks after they last played, Hucknall Sports Whites finally got back league football with a match against Dunkirk Colts.
Whites were slow into their stride and looked extremely rusty whilst a bumpy pitch made controlling the ball difficult. Sports confidence ebbed away as the mistakes continued and Dunkirk looked to take advantage but thankfully Kal Orton in the Hucknall goal was alert to any dangers and protected his goal well. Hucknall managed to find a way forward at last and forced a number of corners but a particularly heavy ball made it difficult to find the penalty spot from the resultant crosses.
Finally, Sports got their act together and a great run and cross from James Hallam set up Jacob Barlow for Sports first goal.
Half time: Dunkirk 0 Hucknall Sports Whites 1
Substitute Ryan Towle was introduced for the second half and immediately effected Whites performance with some great wing play and crosses. But it took a James Hallam goal, from a Towle cross, for Whites to finally settle and start to play like the top-of-the-table side that they are. Within moments Hallam had made it three for Hucknall with another goal created by clever wing-play. Further substitutions were made with Kieran Wilson, Will Brown, Josh Hart and Tyler Johnstone getting a chance to show what they could do. Hucknall's confidence returned as they finally found their rhythm and spread the ball around with style.
Dunkirk scored a goal that their endeavour deserved when they capitalised on a mis-hit goal kick to score high into the top corner. But the game was all but over and the final whistled blew to signal a winning start to the New Year for Sports.
Final score: Dunkirk 1 Hucknall Sports Whites 3
Man of the Match candidates for this game included James Hallam for a great exhibition of leading the front line, Kal Orton for great goalkeeping and Jarrod Davies for a versatile display that saw him start as a midfielder and end as a centre-back.
However, the eventual winner was Mitch Davies for a wonderful performance in midfield both for driving the team forward and helping in defence - a tireless exhibition of never-say-die football.
Winning 'ugly' when not playing well is the best way to summarise this game, but Sports remain unbeaten in the league and credit to the boys for keeping that run going.

East Valley 2 Hucknall Sports White 8
Magic Performance from the 'Welsh Wizard'
Perfect playing conditions greeted Hucknall as they arrived at Goosedale Sports Complex to play East Valley for the second week running.
Regular centre-back Harry Saxton was missing for this game so Whites reorganised and played a back line of Joe Newton, Mitch Davies and Dylan Smith.
From the first whistle Whites played with the style and confidence of a team that is unbeaten in the League this season and set about East Valley with a ferocious appetite for goals. Jarrod Davies provided the muscle-in-midfield and won everything that went near him, but as well as winning the ball he also showed fantastic composure to make telling and dangerous passes time and again. Alongside Jarrod, his new midfield partner Ellis Evans refused to be outdone and he too showed just what a dangerous player he can be when given time on the ball. Up front James Hallam sacrificed everything for his team mates showing that he is much more than a goal-machine and he had a hand in many of the goals that Whites scored in the first half.
Evans opened the scoring with a brace of goals followed by a goal each from Jarrod Davies, Ryan Towle and Jacob Barlow to take Hucknall into the break leading 5-0.
Half time: East Valley 0 Hucknall Sports Whites 5
Sports introduced last weeks hero goalkeeper William Brown as a replacement striker and welcomed back Kieran Wilson to the team after an absence of 3 weeks for the second half. Ryan Towle continued his good goal scoring form with his second goal of the game and Evans completed his first hat-trick of the season with a well taken effort from a narrow angle. East Valley's lightening fast forward line scored two well taken goals to show that they had not thrown in the towel, but Hucknall closed out the game with a well deserved goal from super-striker James Hallam.
Final score: East Valley 2 Hucknall Sports Whites 8
Hucknall's Management and Coaches thought last weeks performance was good, but today's was 'out of this world'.
Sports are playing wonderful football at the moment and can't wait for next weeks Cup clash with Division One opponents.
The list of contenders for Man of the Match would include the entire squad after today's performance and Jarrod Davies in particular can once again consider himself unlucky to miss out.
But the worthy winner was the new look 'Welsh Wizard' Ellis Evans, not just for his goals but also for a magnificent show of incisive midfield passing - well done Ellis and keep wearing the headband.
